The energy was electric as fans flooded the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans for the 91st Sugar Bowl on January 2nd, 2025. This year’s matchup between the storied Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the powerhouse Georgia Bulldogs was more than just a game— it was a celebration of college football tradition. As a sports photographer, capturing moments from this historic game was a thrilling and unforgettable experience.
New Orleans is renowned for its vibrant culture, and the Sugar Bowl brings out the city’s best, especially after what happened on Bourbon St on New Year's Day morning. Hours before kickoff, fans decked out in green and gold mingled with a sea of red and black along Canal Street. The aroma of Cajun cuisine wafted through the air, and the sound of brass bands set the tone for the evening. My job started before the game, capturing the band, cheerleaders, fan interactions, and the festive spirit that defines the Sugar Bowl.
Notre Dame’s victory over Georgia, 23-10, was marked by pivotal plays that any photographer dreams of capturing. Moments both positive and negative are what make sports photography so exhilarating—they’re fleeting, and you have to be ready. On the defensive side, Notre Dame’s players put on a show. A couple of turnovers turned the tide decisively in their favor. A few moments that caught my eye was a long touchdown pass from Georgia and celebration that followed and a turnover by Georgia and Notre Dame's defense celebrated as a team and not individuals! Here are some of my favorite action shot separated by quarter.
